Surgical extractions are required when a tooth cannot be removed with a simple extraction — typically because it is impacted, broken below the gumline, or has complex root anatomy. Dr. Merchi performs surgical extractions with precision and care to minimize discomfort and promote fast healing.
Wisdom Tooth Removal
Wisdom teeth (third molars) often become impacted — stuck beneath the gumline — because there isn't enough room for them to emerge properly. Impacted wisdom teeth can cause pain, infection, crowding, and damage to adjacent teeth. Early removal is often recommended.
The Surgical Extraction Process
After administering local anesthesia (and sedation if desired), Dr. Merchi will make a small incision in the gum tissue to access the tooth. The tooth may be divided into sections for easier removal. The site is then cleaned and sutured.
